If your Bloomington  Bathroom Remodeling | landmarkmade apartment bathroom is dated and you’d like to bring it up to modern standards, there are several options. These include sprucing up your shower, adding storage, or even remodeling your tub and sink.

When Eric Skarphol, a student at BHSS, wanted to remodel the main-floor bathroom in his home, he needed to find affordable materials without sacrificing style. He also wanted to design a space that was accessible for his sister Kathy, who has cerebral palsy and uses a scooter.

Modern

When Eric Skarphol and his wife, Anne Maimares, moved into their 1990s Bloomington rambler, they wanted a bathroom that would be functional for their disabled sister, Kathy. She has cerebral palsy and uses a scooter, so the couple wanted to find an accessible design that also looked great. They called on the designers at Nordine Remodeling to help them find the perfect balance of accessibility features and modern style, while keeping the project within their budget.

To make their bathroom stand out, the experts at Nordine used a large shower wall tile and alternating tile patterns to create a compelling design. They also added a recessed shelf that holds soap and shampoo in the shower and a flexible vanity that allows for additional storage. Finally, the team installed a motion-activated brushed-nickel faucet and a nonskid floor that grips Kathy’s scooter when it’s wet. The best part is that it all comes together in a unified and elegant design.

Traditional

Traditional bathrooms are classic spaces, filled with a refined aesthetic. They’re typically light and airy, with rich color palettes, textured finishes and elegant fixtures. Stone counters, floors and wall treatments are a popular choice in traditional-style bathrooms. Look for light-hued stone such as marble or quartz for an easier-to-clean surface that will stand the test of time.

For a traditional bathroom, it’s important to design the space with plenty of storage. Whether it’s double-sink cabinets, a dressing table or additional vanity drawers, having extra space is a must. Also, a bathtub that features classic features and roomy proportions is ideal for greater accessibility, as is a shower with a tub-shower combo. Finally, look for a faucet and hardware with brushed nickel or oil-rubbed bronze accents to give the room an antique feel. Add a pretty tray for bath products and an embroidered hand towel for a finished, luxurious traditional bathroom. See more ideas in the Style Guide below!

Transitional

The transitional style combines classic and modern elements in one space to create a sophisticated, timeless look. Using traditional fixtures and furniture with contemporary vanities is an easy way to achieve this.

To create a transitional bathroom, choose softer, neutral colors like beiges, whites and blues. This style also calls for smooth metallic accents and natural materials such as wood and stone.

A large-format tile layout can also help carry this style’s clean and minimalist look, while keeping grout lines thin and preventing a cluttered appearance. Whether you go with staggered, stacked or herringbone patterns, these large-format tiles create a clean and polished aesthetic.

When it comes to flooring, a combination of heavy wood planks with smooth blonde hardwood or slate can work well for the transitional design theme. Cabinetry can reflect a simple arts-and-crafts style or a more rustic colonial look with crown molding and decorative hardware.

Contemporary

A contemporary bathroom is an exciting design concept that blends the latest fashion with modern day functionality. This design is often characterized by bold and experimental features, which may be in the form of innovative lighting, fixtures, and vanities.

The best part about a contemporary bathroom is that it can be changed up frequently to stay current with the latest trends and styles. This is especially true of showers and tubs.
